Australia's first successful salt works was established by Richard Cheetham in Geelong, Victoria.

The salt field started to produce within a few years and as the company established more customers it expanded operations into South Australia and Queensland.

The process of producing salt has changed dramatically and as technology advanced, more modern methods of producing and harvesting salt were implemented. 

Cheetham Salt is now Australia's largest producer and refiner of solar salt and a wholly-owned subsidiary of CK Life Sciences International., (Holdings) Inc.
